My grandmother always used to say about fashion: “Everything comes back eventually” and “when I was a young woman” … Today I am old enough to often think the same. I am just saying: Buffalo shoes with platform soles and mesh dresses. Hands up, who had them too?

The Toile de Jouy pattern has already experienced this kind of renaissance several times, as according to Wikipedia it dates back to the 17th century.

At the moment, Toile de Jouy is definitely quite fashionable again. Personally, I prefer it in home decor. Probably for nostalgic reasons, because yes, we also had dishes in this style at home when I was a child. Our dishes had the classic red tone, and if I dig deep enough into my parents’ cupboards, I am sure I will still find a few pieces from back then.

In the garden of the Bed & Breakfast Fontaine de Cérier, owned by my friend Sandra, the blue Toile de Jouy tablecloth from Dekoria looks absolutely dreamy. And if you like more table decoration with Dekoria in Provence style, you can also find a spring table decoration with Dekoria here.

Dekoria Tischdecke & einfache Tischdekoration

In general, you do not need much to make your guests stop and stare. You do not need the most luxurious candlesticks or the most expensive flower arrangements to create a special atmosphere for lunch or dinner.

There is this TV show that is actually about cooking, but somehow also always a little bit about table decoration. I swear, sometimes I would love to jump in and tidy everything up. No, no, no: all that little fuss is really not necessary!

Why a tablecloth makes all the difference

The secret of a stylish table begins with a good tablecloth, and that can last a lifetime. As a former decorator, I would also recommend investing in matching cloth napkins. With that, the foundation is already set to turn a normal dining table into a table where you can spend an unforgettable evening with your guests.

Dekoria tablecloth & simple table decoration

Take the following table as an example. Can you imagine what kind of lunch took place here? Laughing guests, happy with a simple salad and fresh bread? A good wine with it and the first sweet strawberries of summer for dessert? And is the table not a dream? I bet one or two people would have taken a photo of it.

The most important accessory for this natural look is the linen tablecloth. It is from Dekoria, and you can even have it made in the right size. And as I already recommended before, the table was set with matching linen napkins. A set table always creates a special atmosphere. In countries where food plays an important role, even restaurant tables are always properly set. How I love that.

For this natural table, you simply decorate the napkins with a few grasses or herbs. And if it is windy outside, you can also arrange the cutlery on the napkin. In the middle of the table, you can place a vine. In this case it was grapevine, but ivy always works too. Then simply spread a few tomatoes on the table, as we did here. You can also use any vegetables, apples or pears — as long as they match the colors and do not attract flies.

Add vinegar, oil and wine to the table — and your Mediterranean table decoration is done. If you keep vinegar and oil in pretty bottles, it is even easier. The beautiful black tableware on our table is also from the Dekoria online shop. And what do you think — is the table not a dream, even without a lot of fuss? For this kind of outdoor decoration, you should definitely avoid candles and open fire because of the risk of fire.

PS: I have shown another beautiful tablecloth from Dekoria in my post about the Toile de Jouy tablecloth.

(Advertising with passion / trade fair impressions)

Here is the second part of my Ambiente 2020 impressions from Frankfurt. In the first post, I already wrote a little about why these fairs are always something special to me.

Ambiente 2020 may not have been quite as full of incredibly elaborately staged trade fair stands as it was ten years ago. The budgets no longer seem endless, but for me, Ambiente is still full of inspiring interior ideas.

I always find it exciting to see how differently brands present their collections. Some stands feel almost like small apartments, others more like little worlds.

Since I was able to take so many beautiful photos at Ambiente 2020, I simply had to split the impressions into two posts. You can find the first part here: Ambiente 2020 Part 1.

PS: You can also find more Ambiente impressions in my posts about Ambiente 2018: Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 🙈🙈.

Ambiente in Frankfurt used to be not just a trade fair for me, but somehow part of my work routine. Although definitely the very special part 😂🙈.

To this day, I still enjoy the atmosphere and all the impressions. If I have the opportunity and the time, I do not miss Ambiente. Ambiente is one of the most impressive interior and consumer goods fairs in Germany. Retailers, manufacturers and brands from all over the world come together there and present their latest collections on often impressive trade fair stands. You walk through halls full of decoration, living ideas, tableware, colors, materials and trends.

What I always find particularly impressive are the elaborately designed stands. Some of them are so large and staged in such detail that you almost get dizzy when you think about the costs. But that is, of course, also part of the appeal. You do not just see individual products, but staged, almost magical worlds.

In this post, I have collected a few impressions from Ambiente 2020 in Frankfurt. I hope I was able to capture some of these impressions for you. I was able to take so many beautiful photos that I had to make two posts out of them. Here you can find Ambiente 2020 Part 2.

And if you still have not had enough of elaborately staged showrooms afterwards, you can find more impressions in my posts about Ambiente 2018: Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 🙈🙈.

Viele Fotos – so ca. 4000 Stück 🤔.

“If I had known you were coming, I would have baked a cake.”
My friend Sandra from Fontaine de Cérier knew I was coming. And she had baked a cake.
Chocolate cake 😋. By the way, the cake was baked without a recipe and was still absolutely heavenly. Recipes are probably only for people like me.
But I could keep up quite well with what I had brought with me. I had black Dekoria tableware in my luggage. And since Sandra absolutely loves tableware and porcelain, we immediately inaugurated it with that very chocolate cake.

And because it looked so wonderful when Sandra came around the corner with the cake on the plate, in her beautiful dress, with the matching tableware and that delicious chocolate cake, we obviously had to take photos. Many photos maybe 4000 or so 🤔.
Thank God Sandra is up for every bit of fun and willingly let me chase her around the kitchen. It went something like this: Do that again. And again. And again, please. Noooo, not like thaaat! Ohhh, that looked so beautiful just now.
At least we were clever enough to drink the coffee and eat the cake before our photo session. Because one photo turned into, as already mentioned, about 2000 to 425,000 photos or so.

I discovered this Boho placemat in the old town of Nice. I found it in a small shop hidden in one of the little streets of the old town, filled from top to bottom with the most beautiful things. I love shops like that. You only go in for a quick look, have a little browse and then, of course, leave with something you definitely had not been looking for. In my case, it was this Boho placemat with pompoms.

I do not actually use placemats very often, but I simply could not resist such cute little pompoms. The placemat immediately found a place in the dining room. Now I can put my sweating glasses and little nice cream bowls on it.

Which brings us to my latest passion: nice cream.
At the moment, I am buying bananas by the kilo. I have discovered nice cream for myself. I know, this is old news, but until then I had actually never made nice cream myself. And honestly: nice cream in a pretty bowl, with little flowers, blossoms and a bit of decoration around it, is really rather pretty. Absolutely photogenic. Very Instagram-friendly. And delicious too. Now that it is so hot, I could almost live on nice cream.

Anyone interested in the sweet little interior shop where I found the placemat can find a whole blogpost about it in this post: Interior Shopping in Nice.

If you ever happen to have some vegetables left over because you a) decorated your kitchen for photos beforehand or b) became a shopping victim at your favorite greengrocer and bought artichokes because they looked so pretty, then I have just the thing for you: a tip for a vegetarian table decoration.

For my tip, all you need is your leftover vegetables and a few guests.

Not that you now think you have to cook something amazing for your guests. Of course, you are very welcome to do that. But I am a decorator, not a cook, so I use the vegetables as decoration before eating them. From a sustainability point of view, that is even one step better. And if your guests also arrive by bike and wear ecologically acceptable clothing … I am digressing again.
So, what I wanted to say is this: even with vegetables from the fridge, you can decorate your table really well. The vegetarian table decoration, so to speak.
Of course, the vegetables for this kind of table decoration should be color-coordinated. For example, you can mix asparagus green plus lime green plus lemon yellow, or plum plus fig plus grape red. Please do not throw apple green plus lemon yellow plus radish red and carrot orange together🙈.

By the way, I became weak while shopping for my kitchen post (here) when I saw the artichokes at the greengrocer’s. Before I knew it, limes, green asparagus, basil and chives had also landed in my stylish basket. The man clearly knows exactly how it works …

PS: The asparagus and the baguette did not survive long enough for the decoration, but everything else was allowed onto the table. I also relieved my indoor palm of a few fronds, and my vegetarian table decoration was ready.

Here comes part 3 of my Ambiente 2018 impressions from Frankfurt. After part 1 and part 2, I still could not stop sharing trade fair photos, because I had simply collected too many beautiful pictures and impressions.

Ambiente 2018 was once again beautiful for me, even though there seem to be fewer and fewer stands that can afford the really opulent stagings. But there are still so many beautiful stands that present their products in a loving and creative way. Everywhere there were cool details to discover. Decoration, colors, candles, tableware, plants, furniture, materials, cushions and basically everything a decoration heart could wish for.
What is also exciting about trade fair impressions like these is that you get to see the most different styles and the craziest ideas. Whether color combinations you would never have tried yourself, or products that do not only make you smile, but sometimes really make you laugh. There really is nothing that does not exist 😂🙈.

Since I really took a lot of photos at Ambiente 2018, I had to split the impressions into three posts. Part 1 and Part 2 of my Ambiente 2018 impressions can also be found here on the blog.

Ambiente 2018 in Frankfurt was my first trade fair after I had separated myself from my former life with a decoration shop and online shop. Some things about it I miss. Some things not at all 😂🙈.
Of course, I still did not want to miss the chance to visit Ambiente with its impressive and often beautifully staged trade fair stands. I simply still love interior, decoration, tableware and beautiful home ideas far too much.

Ambiente has always been something special to me, and it always will be. You walk through inspiring halls full of colors, decoration, furniture, candles, tableware and endlessly many lovingly arranged little details. Some trade fair stands are designed so elaborately that you hardly know where to look first. Others take you into their own little world. And then, with every third piece, there is this: WANT IT 😂.
