Zum Geburtstag habe ich eine Duftkerze bekommen. Eine Cereria Molla 1899 Duftkerze „Santal & Tonka“. Ehrlich gesagt: Cereria Molla 1899 hatte ich vorher noch nie gehört, aber der Duftkerzenmarkt ist ja auch riesig. Es ist schier unmöglich, jede Marke zu kennen, die Duftkerzen herstellt.
Allen, die sich häufig in Spanien aufhalten, könnte Cereria Molla 1899 allerdings ein Begriff sein. Wie gesagt, ich kannte die Marke nicht und bin ziemlich begeistert von meiner neuen Duftkerze.

Besonders gut gefällt mir das schlichte schwarze Design der Duftkerze. Damit ist sie der perfekte Deko-Buddy für pinteresttaugliche Couchtisch-Dekorationen mit Coffee Table Books. Oder sagen wir: die perfekte Dekokerze für den Couchtisch.
Aber sie ist natürlich nicht nur schön und dekorativ, sondern sie riecht auch ganz wunderbar. Der Duft „Santal & Tonka“ ist ganz zart und pudrig. Und obwohl der Duft so zart ist, riecht der ganze Raum danach, wenn die Kerze brennt. Ich muss gestehen, ich bin ein bisschen verliebt in diesen Duft.
Ich habe gesehen, dass es von „Santal & Tonka“ auch ein Bodyspray gibt, und ich glaube, das werde ich mir ebenfalls noch bestellen.

Wie die Cereria Molla 1899 Duftkerze brennt

Davon einmal abgesehen brennt meine Cereria Molla 1899 Duftkerze auch ganz hervorragend. Ich habe eine Drei-Docht-Kerze geschenkt bekommen, und sie brennt absolut perfekt. Sie bildet keine Löcher, die Dochte ertrinken nicht – alles ist, wie es sein soll.
Auch die Brenndauer ist hervorragend. Die Kerze hat schon viele Stunden ihren Dienst getan, und ich hatte wirklich lange Freude daran. Und ich darf mich auch weiterhin noch auf viele Stunden mit ihr freuen.

Das Einzige, was ich regelmäßig mache: den Docht trimmen. Sprich: mit einer Dochtschere das Schwarze vom Docht abschneiden. Aber das sollte man bei Duftkerzen ja ohnehin regelmäßig machen. Darüber habe ich in meinem Beitrag über die Dochtschere für Kerzen schon einmal berichtet.

I received a scented candle for my birthday. A Cereria Molla 1899 scented candle in “Santal & Tonka”. To be honest, I had never heard of Cereria Molla 1899 before, but the scented candle market is huge. It is almost impossible to know every brand that makes scented candles.
However, for anyone who spends a lot of time in Spain, Cereria Molla 1899 might be a familiar name. As I said, I did not know the brand before, and I am quite thrilled with my new scented candle.

What I particularly like is the simple black design of the scented candle. It makes it the perfect little decor buddy for Pinterest-worthy coffee table decorations with coffee table books. Or, let’s say: the perfect decorative candle for the coffee table.

But of course, it is not only beautiful and decorative, it also smells wonderful. The scent “Santal & Tonka” is very soft and powdery. And even though the scent is so delicate, the whole room smells of it when the candle is burning. I have to admit, I am a little in love with this fragrance.

I have seen that there is also a body spray in the “Santal & Tonka” scent, and I think I might have to order that as well.

How the Cereria Molla 1899 Scented Candle Burns

Apart from that, my Cereria Molla 1899 scented candle also burns beautifully. I was given a three-wick candle, and it burns absolutely perfectly. It does not tunnel, the wicks do not drown – everything is exactly as it should be.
The burn time is also excellent. The candle has already done its job for many hours, and I have enjoyed it for quite a long time. And I can still look forward to many more hours with it.

The only thing I do regularly is trim the wick. In other words: I cut off the black part of the wick with a wick trimmer. But that is something you should do regularly with scented candles anyway. I have already written about this in my post about the wick trimmer for candles.

Diese Drehteller (Affiliate Link) schaue ich mir schon eine ganze Weile an. Aber ich war mir nicht sicher, ob sie wirklich das Richtige für mich sind.
Aber kurz gesagt: Ich würde den Drehteller wieder kaufen. Er bringt sofort mehr Ordnung ins Bad – vor allem, wenn viele kleine Produkte herumstehen.

Mein Problem war Unordnung im Bad. Nicht wirklich Unordnung, aber der Kleinkram, der so herumsteht. Ein kleines Gläschen hiervon, ein kleines Töpfchen davon und noch schlimmer – drei Tuben von diesem. Ihr wisst, was ich meine. Es sieht unordentlich aus und nervt beim Putzen. Außerdem ist dieser herumliegende Kleinkram im Badezimmer ja auch schon rein farblich gesehen ein einziges Chaos.
Also suchte ich etwas, mit dem ich dem Kleinkram im Bad den Garaus machen konnte.

Der Kleinkram-Kampf – und wie der Drehteller ihn gewann

Ich habe schon alles Mögliche ausprobiert, wie beispielsweise Körbchen. Aber nur mit mäßigem Erfolg. In Körbchen kann man nicht richtig hineinschauen, und im Bad muss es oft zügig gehen. Da will man nicht in drei Körbchen wühlen. Glas und Keramik kommen für Ordnungssysteme im Bad für mich aus Sicherheitsgründen nicht in Frage. Ich bin im Bad immer barfuß unterwegs, und meine Fliesen sind leider empfindlich. Holz bekommt unschöne Wasserflecken, und Pappe weicht auf.
Also habe ich mich auf die Suche nach einem Ordnungssystem gemacht, das all diesen Ansprüchen gerecht wird – und mich für diese Drehteller aus Kunststoff entschieden.

Und ich muss sagen, ich bereue meinen Kauf nicht. Mit den Drehtellern habe ich das Kleinkram-Chaos gebändigt. Sie bringen sofort mehr Ruhe ins Bad – vor allem, wenn viele kleine Produkte herumstehen.
Was ich daran wirklich mag: Nun ist mein Badregal ordentlich, nichts kippt mehr um und ich finde alles sofort. Gerade morgens ist das praktisch, wenn es schnell gehen muss.
Den zweiten Drehteller habe ich im Badunterschrank. Da ist es fast noch besser. Jetzt muss ich nicht mehr in den Schrank krabbeln, wenn ich etwas suche. Man wird ja nicht jünger…
Meine Mutter habe ich übrigens auch angesteckt. Da dreht sich jetzt der halbe Haushalt 😂🙈.

Ich würde ihn jederzeit wieder kaufen – vor allem für kleinere Bäder. Ich kann mir Drehteller auch überall dort gut vorstellen, wo viele kleine Dinge herumstehen und eine klassische Box einfach keinen Sinn macht.

I’ve had my eye on these turntable organizers (affiliate link) for quite a while. But I wasn’t sure if they were really the right choice for me. But in short: I would buy the turntable organizer again. It instantly brings more calm to the bathroom – especially when lots of small products are cluttering the space.

My problem was clutter in the bathroom. Not real mess, but all those little things just sitting around. A small jar of this, a little pot of that, and even worse – three tubes of something else. You know what I mean. It looks untidy and is annoying to clean around. And honestly, all that random clutter in the bathroom is a complete visual chaos too. So I was looking for something to finally tackle the clutter problem once and for all.

The Clutter Battle – and How the Turntable Organizer Won

I’d already tried everything – baskets, for example. But with limited success. You can’t really see into baskets properly, and in the bathroom you often need things quickly. Nobody wants to rummage through three baskets. Glass and ceramic are out of the question for me in the bathroom for safety reasons. I always walk around barefoot, and my tiles are unfortunately sensitive. Wood gets ugly water stains, and cardboard goes soggy. So I went looking for an organizer that ticked all the boxes – and ended up choosing these plastic turntable organizers.

And I have to say, I don’t regret my purchase at all. The turntable organizers have tamed the clutter chaos completely. They instantly bring more calm to the bathroom – especially when lots of small products are involved. What I really love about them: my bathroom shelf is now tidy, nothing falls over anymore and I find everything immediately. Especially useful in the mornings when you’re in a rush.

The second turntable organizer lives in my bathroom cabinet. That’s actually even better. No more crawling into the cabinet looking for things. We’re not getting any younger… I’ve also converted my mum. Now half her household revolves. Ha ha 😂🙈

I’d buy it again anytime – especially for smaller bathrooms. I can also imagine turntable organizers working brilliantly anywhere lots of small items tend to pile up and a classic box just doesn’t make sense.

Ich liebe Duftkerzen. Ich habe früher im Laden unter anderem Yankee Candle Duftkerzen verkauft und war gar nicht so schlecht darin, die Düfte mit geschlossenen Augen zu erraten. Lieblingsspiel meiner Praktikanten im Laden 😂. Ihr lacht jetzt, aber das Sortiment von Yankee Candle ist ziemlich groß. Dazu kommen noch die vierteljährlich wechselnden Kollektionen und limitierten Düfte 🙈. Bis heute finden Yankee Candle Kerzen den Weg in mein Heim.

Vor einigen Jahren hat Yankee Candle sein Sortiment um die Marke WoodWick erweitert. Das sind Duftkerzen mit einem sogenannten Knisterdocht, um es mal ganz unfachmännisch auszudrücken. Und auch an denen kann ich einfach nicht vorbei. Vor Kurzem bin ich auf die WoodWick Candle „Evergreen Cashmere“ (Affiliate Link) gestoßen und war sofort schockverliebt. Ich liebe den Duft, und der knisternde Docht sorgt für eine gemütliche Kaminstimmung. Kaum zu glauben, was so ein kleiner Docht zustande bringt. Wenn ich es richtig verstanden habe, entsteht das Kaminfeuer-Knistern durch Lufteinschlüsse in den Holzfasern des Holzdochtes.

Und weil die Düfte oft wechseln und dann nicht mehr im Programm sind, habe ich mir vorsichtshalber einen kleinen Vorrat der WoodWick Candle „Evergreen Cashmere“ angelegt.

I love scented candles. I used to sell Yankee Candle scented candles in my shop, among other things, and I was not bad at guessing the scents with my eyes closed. Favorite game of my interns in the shop 😂. You may laugh now, but the Yankee Candle range is quite large. And then there are the quarterly changing collections and limited scents 🙈. To this day, Yankee Candle candles still find their way into my home.

A few years ago, Yankee Candle expanded its range with the brand WoodWick. These are scented candles with a so-called crackling wick, to put it in a very non-professional way. And I simply cannot walk past those either. Recently, I came across the WoodWick Candle “Evergreen Cashmere” (affiliate link) and instantly fell in love. I love the scent, and the crackling wick creates such a cozy fireplace feeling. Hard to believe what such a small wick can do. If I understood it correctly, the fireplace-like crackling is created by air pockets in the wood fibers of the wooden wick.

And because scents often change and then disappear from the range, I carefully stocked up on a small supply of the WoodWick Candle “Evergreen Cashmere”.

Von einem Nahrungsergänzungsmittel hatte ich ein paar wirklich hübsche und praktische Apothekengläser mit Schraubverschluss übrig. Viel zu schade für den Glasmüll. Als ich mir die Gläser so ansah, dachte ich mir, sie wären perfekt als neue Apothekengläser für Gewürze und Kräuter.
Außerdem hatten meine bisherigen Gewürzgläser dringend ein Update nötig – sie wurden etwas unansehnlich. Nach einem kurzen Check, ob diese Gläser auch wirklich in meine Schublade passen, war ich Feuer und Flamme, sie als neue Kräuter- und Gewürzgläser zu nutzen.

Leider hatte ich natürlich nicht genügend von diesen Gläsern für all meine Kräuter und Gewürze. Und ich möchte jetzt auch nicht bis ans Ende meiner Tage diese Nahrungsergänzungsmittel nehmen, nur um meine Gewürzsammlung umfüllen zu können. Denn eines ist sicher: Ich hasse Durcheinander in meinen Schubladen.
Also habe ich mich online auf die Suche gemacht und tatsächlich fast identische Apothekengläser für Gewürze und Kräuter gefunden. Der Deckel war zwar ein wenig anders, aber damit konnte ich leben.

Da der Stil der Apothekengläser gut zum „Natural Style“ passt, wollte ich natürlich auch Aufkleber, die dazu passen. Dabei bin ich auf Kraftpapieraufkleber gestoßen. Ich habe runde Aufkleber für die Deckel bestellt, damit ich von oben direkt sehen kann, was in den Kräuter- und Gewürzgläsern ist. Außerdem größere für die Gläser selbst – falls ich sie in ein Regal stelle oder liegend aufbewahre.

Passende Aufkleber für Apothekengläser im Natural Style

Ein kleiner Tipp: Die Deckel meiner Apothekengläser haben einen Durchmesser von 5 cm, also habe ich gezielt nach Aufklebern mit 4 cm Durchmesser gesucht. Achtet darauf, falls ihr euch auch solche Gläser zulegen wollt, denn die meisten Aufkleber haben einen Durchmesser von 5 cm.
Außerdem gibt es die Gläser in verschiedenen Größen, was ziemlich praktisch ist – von manchen Gewürzen habe ich gerne auch ein wenig mehr im Haus.
Ich liebe es übrigens, wenn in meinen Schubladen alles aufgeräumt und ordentlich aussieht. Gerade solche kleinen Helfer machen den Unterschied. Im Bad habe ich das Problem mit der Unordnung zum Beispiel mit kleinen Drehtellern gelöst – darüber habe ich hier schon einmal geschrieben.

I had a few really beautiful and practical apothecary jars with screw lids left over from a dietary supplement. Far too nice to throw away. When I looked at them, I thought they would be perfect as new apothecary jars for spices and herbs.
My old spice jars were also in need of an update – they had become a bit worn. After a quick check to see if the apothecary jars would actually fit into my drawer, I was completely convinced to use them as my new spice and herb jars.

Of course, I didn’t have enough of these jars for all my spices and herbs. And I’m definitely not going to keep taking that supplement forever just to complete my collection. One thing is certain: I hate clutter in my drawers.
So I started looking online and actually found almost identical apothecary jars for spices and herbs. The lid was slightly different, but I could live with that.
Since the style of the jars fits perfectly with a natural look, I also wanted matching labels. I came across kraft paper labels and ordered round ones for the lids, so I can see from above what’s inside. I also got larger labels for the jars themselves, in case I store them on a shelf or lying down.

A small tip: The lids of my jars have a diameter of 5 cm, so I specifically looked for labels with a diameter of 4 cm. Keep that in mind if you want to recreate this, as most labels come in 5 cm.
The jars are also available in different sizes, which is really practical – for some spices I like to keep a bit more on hand.
I really love it when everything in my drawers looks neat and organized. These small details make such a difference for me. In my bathroom, for example, I solved a similar organization issue with small rotating trays – I’ve written about that here before.

Der Beitrag MEINE NEUEN APOTHEKENGLÄSER FÜR GEWÜRZE & KRÄUTER erschien zuerst auf Zeitgeist Living.

Diese Vintage Boxen sind eigentlich schon ein alter Hut, aber sie sind toll – und man kann davon fast nicht genug haben. Genau genommen handelt es sich dabei um alte Ziegelformen, die früher zur Herstellung von Ziegeln verwendet wurden. Heute „zweckentfremden“ wir sie und nutzen sie als kleine dekorative Storage-Boxen.
Sie sehen nicht neu und perfekt aus, sondern haben Gebrauchsspuren, Patina und kleine Unregelmäßigkeiten. Gerade das mag ich an ihnen besonders. Dadurch wirken sie sofort lebendiger als eine normale Aufbewahrungsbox aus Plastik.

Ich nutze solche Vintage Boxen gerne in der Küche, wie auf meinen Fotos. Man kann darin kleine Dinge sammeln, die sonst irgendwo herumliegen: Gewürze, Gläser, Servietten, Teelichter oder Küchenkleinkram. Aber auch im Badezimmer funktionieren sie gut, zum Beispiel für Kosmetik, Gästehandtücher oder kleine Pflegeprodukte. Ich finde sie auch als Geschenkbox ziemlich cool.
Es gibt Leute, die solche alten Ziegelformen sogar als Wandregale verwenden, zum Beispiel für Gewürze. Das sieht ziemlich gut aus. Und ich habe auch schon gesehen, dass sie bepflanzt werden – als kleine rustikale Pflanzboxen.
Mir gefällt außerdem, dass sie eine schöne Alternative zu Plastikboxen sind. Sie sind robust, langlebig und haben nicht diesen typischen Aufbewahrungsbox-Charakter. Wenn man sie mag, kann man sie wahrscheinlich ein Leben lang behalten.

These vintage boxes may already be an old story, but they are wonderful – and honestly, you can hardly have enough of them. Strictly speaking, they are old brick molds that were once used to make bricks. Today, we “repurpose” them and use them as small decorative storage boxes.
They do not look new or perfect, but have signs of use, patina and small irregularities. That is exactly what I like about them. It immediately makes them feel more alive than a normal plastic storage box.

I like using vintage boxes like these in the kitchen, as you can see in my photos. You can collect all kinds of small things in them that would otherwise be lying around somewhere: spices, glasses, napkins, tealights or little bits and pieces from the kitchen. But they also work well in the bathroom, for example for cosmetics, guest towels or small care products. I also think they are pretty cool as gift boxes.
Some people even use old brick molds as wall shelves, for example for spices. That looks pretty good. And I have also seen them planted with greenery – as small rustic plant boxes.
I also like that they are a beautiful alternative to plastic boxes. They are robust, long-lasting and do not have that typical storage-box look. If you like them, you can probably keep them for a lifetime.

Wenn man noch nie eine Dochtschere für Kerzen gesehen hat und sie bei Freunden herumliegen sieht, spuken einem unwillkürlich seltsame Bilder und Fragen im Kopf herum. Ich überlasse dies eurer eigenen Fantasie 😂🙈. Ich komme darauf auch nur, weil ich dazu schon sehr seltsame Fragen gestellt bekommen habe 🙈.
Aber lasst euch gesagt sein: Diese Schere ist harmlos. Man schneidet damit lediglich den Docht von Kerzen ab.

Ist der Docht einer Kerze zu lang, flackert und rußt sie, egal wie hochwertig die Kerze ist. Die Flamme wird größer und unruhiger, die Kerze verbraucht mehr Wachs und gerade bei Duftkerzen können die Duftöle schneller verbrennen, statt sich als Duft im Raum zu verteilen. Den Ruß findet man dann im schlechtesten Fall als schwarzen Film an der Wand wieder oder als unschöne kleine schwarze Knubbel in der Kerze.

Mit einer normalen Schere kommt man natürlich schlecht in ein Kerzenglas oder Windlicht, und der abgeschnittene Dochtrest fällt eigentlich immer ins Glas. Immer! Wie das Butterbrot immer auf die Marmeladenseite fällt. Letztendlich hat man den Ruß auch noch am Finger, und der lässt sich wirklich schwer abwaschen.

Warum eine Dochtschere praktisch ist

Der Vorteil einer Dochtschere oder eines Wick Trimmers liegt darin, dass man damit in fast jedes Glas oder Windlicht kommt und die dreckigen Reste des abgeschnittenen Dochtes auf der kleinen Ablagefläche liegen bleiben. Voilà, Docht gekürzt ohne rußverschmierte Finger.

If you have never seen a wick trimmer for candles before and spot one lying around at a friend’s house, strange images and questions may involuntarily start running through your mind. I will leave that to your own imagination 😂🙈. I only mention this because I have actually been asked some very strange questions about it 🙈.
But let me tell you: this pair of scissors is harmless. You simply use it to trim the wick of candles.

If the wick of a candle is too long, the candle flickers and soots, no matter how high-quality the candle is. The flame becomes larger and less steady, the candle uses more wax and, especially with scented candles, the fragrance oils can burn off too quickly instead of spreading nicely through the room. You may then find the soot as a black film on the wall or as unattractive little black lumps inside the candle.

With normal scissors, it is difficult to reach into a candle glass or lantern, and the cut-off piece of wick basically always falls into the glass. Always! Like toast always falling on the jam side. In the end, you also have soot on your fingers, and it is really hard to wash off.

Why a Wick Trimmer Is Practical

The advantage of a wick trimmer is that you can reach into almost any candle glass or lantern, and the dirty remains of the trimmed wick stay on the small tray-like surface. Voilà, wick trimmed without soot-covered fingers.

Ich hasse Unordnung. Und ja, ich liebe Marie Kondo und verschlinge die Folgen von „The Home Edit“.
Ich falte meine Klamotten zwar nach meinen eigenen Regeln, ich bin schließlich Dekorateurin. Vermutlich habe ich schon Wäscheberge für Schaufenster- und Ladendekorationen gefaltet, die kilometerhoch sind. Und Dinge farblich nach Regenbogen zu sortieren, ist für mein Auge unerträglich. Nein, da bin ich eigen, und das treibt mir auch eine Marie Kondo nicht mehr aus.

Meine letzte Problemzone in Sachen Ordnung waren Schuhe. Schuhe liegen einfach irgendwie herum, kippen um und sind obendrein noch schmutzig. Ich brauchte also eine halbwegs hübsche Aufbewahrung für Schuhe ohne Schuhschrank, die sich einfach ins Interior einfügt. Wohin also vernünftig mit Schuhen? Ich habe schließlich kein Ankleidezimmer und auch keinen Platz für einen Schuhschrank, außerdem sehen die meisten Schuhschränke furchtbar aus. In meinem Schrank haben schmutzige Schuhe auch nichts zu suchen. Jetzt kommt mir nicht mit Schuhkartons. Ich weiß, die kann man stapeln, aber wenn man an das unterste Paar will … Nein, das ist keine Lösung, zudem sehen sie unterschiedlich aus und sind verschieden groß.

Ich möchte meine Schuhe sehen, ich möchte sie einfach entnehmen und auch wieder verstauen können, sie sollen nicht einstauben und auch nicht gequetscht werden. Die Aufbewahrung sollte wenig Platz einnehmen und schön aussehen beziehungsweise sich in die Einrichtung integrieren. Außerdem sollte die ganze Sache günstig und umweltfreundlich sein. Ich wollte auf keinen Fall für jedes Paar Schuhe eine Kunststoffbox kaufen. Kurz: eine Aufbewahrung für Schuhe ohne Schuhschrank, die meinen inneren Ordnungsfreak nicht triggert.

Und wer suchet, der findet! Es ist wie mit meiner Badewanne (ich habe hier darüber berichtet), ich habe eine perfekte Lösung gefunden und nutze dieses Schuh-Aufbewahrungssystem bereits seit einigen Jahren – und mittlerweile auch viele meiner Freunde. Grund genug, euch davon zu berichten.

Meine Lösung: Boxen statt Schuhschrank

Ich habe diese Boxen (affiliate link) aus stabilem Karton gefunden. Sie haben ein Sichtfenster und funktionieren als Schublade. Sie sind einfach perfekt. Für mich sind sie die ideale Aufbewahrung für Schuhe ohne Schuhschrank, ohne dass ein hässlicher Schuhschrank im Weg steht. Ich stapel die Kartons einfach in einem Spalt zwischen Schrank und Wand. An einer anderen Stelle habe ich auch einige der Boxen in einem Regal samt meiner Handtaschen gestapelt und verstaue in einer der Boxen noch einen Regenschirm und kleine Handtaschen.

Um den perfekten Durchblick zu behalten, habe ich von allen Schuhen ein Foto gemacht, es auf ein Etikett gedruckt und auf den jeweiligen Karton geklebt. In manche Kartons passen übrigens auch zwei Paar Sommerschuhe oder mehrere Flip-Flops.
Mittlerweile habe ich die Boxen überall für diversen Kram an Stellen, wo ein Karton mit Deckel zu unpraktisch ist – wie beispielsweise gestapelt in einem Schrank.

PS: Der einzige Haken an der Sache: Es gibt sie leider nur in einer Größe, und sie passen nicht für große Stiefel und sehr große Herrenschuhe.

I hate clutter. And yes, I love Marie Kondo and binge-watch every episode of “The Home Edit”.
I still fold my clothes by my own rules, after all I’m a decorator. I’ve probably folded clothing mountains for shop windows and store decorations that reach up to the sky. And colour-coding things like a rainbow is unbearable for my eyes. No, I’m picky about that and not even Marie Kondo is going to change it.

My last problem area when it comes to organizing was shoes. They are just lying around, falling over and, on top of that, they are dirty. I needed a halfway pretty shoe storage without a shoe cabinet that blends in with my interior. So where do you put shoes in a sensible way? I don’t have a dressing room and I don’t have space for a shoe cabinet, and most shoe cabinets look terrible anyway. Dirty shoes definitely don’t belong in my wardrobe either. And please don’t start with shoe boxes. I know you can stack them, but the moment you need the pair at the very bottom… No, that’s not a solution, plus they all look different and come in all sizes.

The requirements for my shoe storage without a shoe cabinet

I want to see my shoes, I want to take them out easily and put them back just as easily, they shouldn’t get dusty and they shouldn’t be squashed. The storage should take up little space and look nice or at least blend in with the rest of the decor. On top of that, the whole thing should be affordable and as eco-friendly as possible. Buying a plastic box for every single pair of shoes was absolutely out of the question for me. In short: I wanted a shoe storage without a shoe cabinet that doesn’t trigger my inner neat freak.

And if you seek, you shall find! It was just like with my bathtub (I wrote about it here), I found the perfect solution and have been using this shoe storage system for several years now – and meanwhile many of my friends do as well. Reason enough to finally share it with you.

My solution: boxes instead of a shoe cabinet

I found these boxes (affiliate link) made of sturdy cardboard. They have a little window at the front and work like a drawer. They are simply perfect. For me they are the ideal shoe storage without a shoe cabinet, without an ugly shoe cabinet standing around somewhere. I stack the boxes in a narrow gap between wardrobe and wall. In another spot I have a few of them stacked on a shelf together with my handbags, and in one of the boxes I store an umbrella and some small clutches.

To keep the perfect overview, I took a photo of every pair of shoes, printed it on labels and stuck it onto the respective box. Some of the boxes even fit two pairs of summer shoes or several pairs of flip-flops.
By now I use the boxes all over the house for all sorts of bits and pieces – wherever a normal box with lid would simply be too impractical, like stacked inside a cupboard.

PS: The only downside of the whole thing: they unfortunately come in just one size, so they don’t work for tall boots or very large men’s shoes.

Manchmal stelle ich mir vor, was nötig wäre, damit ein Raum eine ganz andere Wirkung bekommt. Soll ich euch was sagen? Als ehemalige Dekorateurin und Stylistin kann ich euch sagen: Dafür braucht es gar nicht viel.
Ihr müsst keine neuen Möbel kaufen, keine neuen Vorhänge und auch keine neuen Teppiche. Natürlich kann man mit Vorhängen und Teppichen viel erreichen, aber auch mit kleinen Dingen könnt ihr einem Raum eine komplett andere Wirkung geben.

Nehmen wir das Wohnzimmer. Ich wollte es gemütlich haben, aber auch irgendwie frisch. Samt beispielsweise ist ein Garant für Gemütlichkeit. Fell ebenso. Da kann man eigentlich nicht viel falsch machen, damit wird es einfach gemütlich. Und das frische Gefühl erreichen wir ganz einfach mit Farbe. In diesem Fall eignen sich kühle Farben, zum Beispiel Blautöne.

Also habe ich meine blauen Samtkissen rausgekramt, das Fell ausgeschüttelt und ein wenig gebürstet. Meine liebste Kuscheldecke habe ich auch noch mit aufs Sofa geworfen. Fertig ist die Gemütlichkeit.
Beim Rumkramen sind mir dann noch meine blauen Gläser (Affiliate Link) in die Hände gefallen, die ich ein wenig vernachlässigt hatte. Die Gläser stammen natürlich wie immer von Dekoria. Sie sind aus dickem, geschliffenem Glas gefertigt, in dem sich das Licht wunderschön bricht. Mit ein paar Zitronen dazu wirkt das Ganze direkt noch frischer, ein bisschen wie Amalfi Coast auf dem Wohnzimmertisch 😂🍋. Wirklich schön.

Sometimes I wonder what it would take to give a room a completely different feel. Shall I tell you something? As a former decorator and stylist, I can tell you: it really does not take much.
You do not need to buy new furniture, new curtains or new rugs. Of course, curtains and rugs can make a big difference, but even with small things, you can give a room a completely different effect.

Let’s take the living room. I wanted it to feel cozy, but somehow also fresh. Velvet, for example, is a guarantee for coziness. Fur as well. You can hardly go wrong with that, it simply makes everything feel cozy. And we can create that fresh feeling very easily with color. In this case, cool colors work well, for example shades of blue.

So I pulled out my blue velvet cushions, shook out the fur and brushed it a little. I also threw my favorite cozy blanket onto the sofa. And there it was, instant coziness.
While rummaging around, I also found my blue glasses (affiliate link), which I had neglected a little. The glasses are, of course, from Dekoria, as always. They are made of thick, cut glass in which the light breaks beautifully. With a few lemons added, the whole thing immediately feels even fresher, a bit like Amalfi Coast on the living room table 😂🍋. Really beautiful.

Heute habe ich über Instagram eine Frage zu meinen LED-Kerzen bekommen, über die ich schon einmal auf dem Blog berichtet hatte. Das ist inzwischen eine ganze Weile her, und sowohl meine Sammlung an LED-Kerzen als auch meine Erfahrungen damit sind gewachsen. Daher berichte ich heute etwas ausführlicher über meine Erfahrungen mit LED-Kerzen (Affiliate Link).

LED-Kerzen sind Teil meines „Cozy-Plans“ und ich benutze sie aus Sicherheitsgründen gerne an Stellen, an denen ich nie eine echte Kerze unbeaufsichtigt brennen lassen würde. Für mich sind sie die perfekte Alternative zu echten Kerzen – besonders auf Schränken, als indirekte kleine Lichtquelle im Flur oder vor unseren Kaminen, die als solche nicht mehr verwendet werden dürfen. Ich habe tatsächlich mittlerweile eine ganz ansehnliche Sammlung.

Der wichtigste Punkt, den ihr bedenken solltet, wenn ihr LED-Kerzen verwendet, ist der Umweltaspekt. Ich verwende ausschließlich Akkus für meine LED-Kerzen und niemals Batterien. Ich habe mir für diesen Zweck extra hochwertige Akkus angeschafft, die ich schon seit vielen Jahren benutze. Sehr gute Erfahrungen habe ich übrigens mit Ansmann Produkten gemacht. Ich habe Ansmann Akkus plus Ladegerät. Es gibt ja solche Unterschiede zwischen Akkus. Die, die man im Supermarkt oder in der Drogerie bekommt, auch wenn man dort das teurere Produkt wählt, kaufe ich übrigens nicht mehr.

Auch bei den LED-Kerzen gibt es natürlich ziemliche Unterschiede. Ganz klar sollte die LED Kerze mit Echtwachs ummantelt sein, damit sie auch aussieht wie eine Kerze. Ich mag die mit den wackelnden Dochten, das hat allerdings den Nachteil bei den günstigeren Modellen, dass sie klappern. Mich stört dieses leise Klappern nicht, aber den einen oder anderen scheint es zu stören.
Weiterhin gibt es, wie mir aufgefallen ist, LED-Kerzen, in die die Akkus nicht gut passen, das sollte man in den Bewertungen mal nachlesen. Das betrifft meiner Erfahrung nach allerdings nur LED-Kerzen, in die die Batterien liegend eingelegt werden. Und dann gibt es auch noch LED-Kerzen, die zu viel Strom verbrauchen, sodass sie mit Akkus nicht betrieben werden können. In dem Fall kann man allerdings auch davon ausgehen, dass die Lebensdauer einer Batterie nicht besonders lang ist. Die solltet ihr definitiv auch nicht kaufen.

Was ich besonders liebe, ist eine Timerfunktion, die man direkt an der Kerze einstellen kann. Wenn ich den Timer heute um 18:00 Uhr einschalte, dann schaltet sich die Kerze nach fünf Stunden von selbst aus und schaltet sich morgen um 18:00 Uhr wieder von selbst ein und nach 5 Stunden wieder aus. Dass macht die LED-Kerze so lange, bis man die Kerze ausschaltet oder den Timer ändert. Die günstigen LED-Kerzen haben diese Funktion leider nicht, sie haben an der Fernbedienung einen Timer, der aber ähnlich funktioniert. Diese Timerfunktion finde ich einfach genial. Wenn man am Abend nach Hause kommt, dann flackern im Flur ein paar Kerzen. Ich nutze diese Funktion übrigens auch für unseren Wohnzimmertisch und kombiniere dort echte Kerzen mit LED-Kerzen auf einem Tablett – darüber habe ich hier schon einmal geschrieben. Das ist sooo schön.

Ich selbst habe früher im Laden die LED-Kerzen von Sompex verkauft, die mit die teuersten auf dem Markt sind. Sie sind wunderschön, der Docht flackert leise, ohne zu klappern und meine geliebte Timerfunktion haben sie auch, allerdings verbrauchen die, die ich noch habe, so viel Strom, dass ich sie nicht mit einem Akku betreiben kann. Ob die neueren Generationen besser im Energieverbrauch sind, weiß ich leider nicht. Auch da sollte man vor dem Kauf die Bewertungen mal lesen.

PS: Ich mische übrigens auch LED-Kerzen mit echten Kerzen. 🙈

Today I received a question on Instagram about my LED candles, which I had written about on the blog some time ago. It’s been quite a while since then, and both my collection of LED candles and my experience with them have grown. So today I thought I’d share a more detailed update on my experience with LED candles (Affiliate Link).

LED candles are part of my “cozy plan,” and I like to use them for safety reasons in places where I would never leave a real candle burning unattended. For me, they are the perfect alternative to real candles—especially on shelves, as a soft indirect light source in the hallway, or in front of our fireplaces, which are no longer in use. I’ve actually built up quite a nice little collection by now.

The most important thing to consider when using LED candles is the environmental aspect. I only use rechargeable batteries and never disposable ones. I invested in high-quality rechargeable batteries years ago, and I’m still using them today. I’ve had very good experiences with Ansmann products in particular—I use their rechargeable batteries along with a charger. There really are huge differences between batteries, and I personally no longer buy the ones you find in supermarkets or drugstores, even the more expensive options.

There are also quite noticeable differences when it comes to LED candles themselves. Ideally, they should be coated with real wax so they actually look like proper candles. I like the ones with flickering wicks, although cheaper versions sometimes make a slight rattling noise. It doesn’t bother me, but it might be something to keep in mind.

I’ve also noticed that with some LED candles, rechargeable batteries don’t fit properly—so it’s worth checking reviews before buying. In my experience, this mostly affects candles where the batteries are inserted horizontally. There are also LED candles that consume so much power that they can’t really be used with rechargeable batteries. In that case, you can assume that regular batteries won’t last long either, so I would definitely avoid those.

What I especially love is a timer function that you can set directly on the candle. If I set the timer at 6:00 pm today, the candle will switch off automatically after five hours and then turn back on again at 6:00 pm the next day—and off again after five hours. It keeps doing this until you turn it off or change the timer. Cheaper LED candles often don’t have this function directly on the candle; instead, they come with a remote control timer that works in a similar way. I absolutely love this feature. When you come home in the evening and a few candles are already flickering in the hallway, it just feels so cozy. I also use this setup on our living room table, where I mix real candles with LED candles on a tray—I’ve written about that here before. It’s sooo nice.

In the past, I used to sell Sompex LED candles in a shop—they are among the more expensive ones on the market. They’re beautiful, the flame flickers softly without any rattling, and they have my favorite timer function as well. However, the ones I own consume so much power that I can’t use them with rechargeable batteries. I don’t know if newer versions are more energy-efficient, so it’s definitely worth checking reviews before buying.

PS: I also like to mix LED candles with real candles. 🙈

LED-Kerzen – Fragen & Antworten

Meine Freundin Sandra von Fontaine de Cerier zeigt mir gerne die wunderschöne Umgebung, in der sie wohnt. So waren wir auch gemeinsam in L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue unterwegs. Natürlich kennt Sandra dort auch ein traumhaftes Interior-Geschäft, das sie mir nicht vorenthalten konnte: Les Bohémiens.

Und ganz ehrlich: Ich wäre dort gerne für ein paar Tage eingezogen. Stellt euch nur vor: Ich hätte weitere tausend oder auch zweitausend Fotos machen können und mit all den hübschen Sachen in dem Spielzimmer spielen können. Nachts hätte ich mich in das riesige Bett gekuschelt und die hundert Kissen darin einzeln an mich gedrückt und geherzt. Und die Traumfänger hätten mich nach Bali gebeamt …
Sorry, nun gehen die Kissen, ähhhh Einhörner, mal wieder mit mir durch 😂🙈.

Nun ja, es blieb bei einem Mitbringsel und einigen Fotos. Wer auch mal davon träumt, in dem großen Bett mit den hundert Kissen zu kuscheln, kann im nächsten Urlaub bei Les Bohémiens vorbeischauen oder den Instagram-Account anschmachten.
Soweit ich weiß, verbringen die Inhaber im Winter regelmäßig eine Zeit auf Bali und suchen dort persönlich besondere Stücke aus, die später per Container nach L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue in ihren Laden kommen. Genau deshalb würde ich auch den Instagram-Account empfehlen. Dort berichten sie nicht nur aus dem Geschäft, sondern auch von Bali und von ihren Einkäufen. Ich schaue dort jedenfalls immer wieder gerne vorbei 🤩.

My friend Sandra from Fontaine de Cerier loves showing me the beautiful area she lives in. That is how we also ended up spending some time together in L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. And of course, Sandra knows a dreamy interior shop there that she simply could not keep from me: Les Bohémiens.

And honestly: I would have loved to move in for a few days. Just imagine: I could have taken another thousand or even two thousand photos and played with all the beautiful things in that little wonderland. At night, I would have curled up in the huge bed and hugged and loved each of the hundred cushions one by one. And the dreamcatchers would have beamed me straight to Bali …
Sorry, now the cushions, uhhh unicorns, are running away with me again.

Well, in the end, I left with one little souvenir and a few photos. If you also dream of cuddling up in that big bed with the hundred cushions, you can stop by Les Bohémiens on your next holiday or admire their Instagram account from afar.
As far as I know, the owners regularly spend some time in Bali during the winter and personally select special pieces there, which later arrive in their shop in L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue by container. That is exactly why I would also recommend their Instagram account. They do not only share impressions from the shop, but also from Bali and from their buying trips. I always enjoy stopping by there.
