2016 haben wir den Jardin Majorelle in Marrakesch zum ersten Mal besucht. Man konnte einfach hinfahren, sich an einer kleinen Kasse Tickets kaufen – musste etwas warten, aber konnte einfach hineingehen.
Wir waren 2016 am Neujahrsmorgen um 8:30 Uhr da und waren die Ersten und einzigen Besucher. Wir waren mehr oder weniger ganz allein. Es war ruhig, es war wunderschön und man würde heute sagen: beschaulich, ja fast magisch. Nach dem Besuch waren wir noch in einem coolen Shop gegenüber, haben einen Kaffee getrunken und sind dann mit einer Kutsche zurückgefahren. Daran kann ich mich noch ganz genau erinnern. Das war 2016.

Heute, 2026, waren wir wieder da und dachten ganz naiv: Man könnte ja noch einmal den Jardin Majorelle in Marrakesch besuchen. Da man online keine Tickets mehr kaufen konnte, sind wir morgens ganz früh dort aufgeschlagen. Ehrlich gesagt, haben wir uns nicht viel dabei gedacht 😂🙈.

Heute: Jardin Majorelle 2026

Ein Schock: Menschenmassen und mehrere Reisegruppen standen schon in einer Warteschlange vor der Tür. Schilder mit Uhrzeiten wurden aufgestellt. Mittlerweile läuft das ein wenig anders im Jardin Majorelle Marrakesch. Tickets kann man ausschließlich online kaufen – und mal eben drei Tage vorher ist das auch gar nicht mehr möglich. Wir haben mehrere Leute am (nicht mehr vorhandenen) Ticketschalter kennengelernt, die sehr traurig darüber waren, dass sie keine Möglichkeit haben, den Jardin Majorelle zu besuchen, da sie nur drei Tage in der Stadt sind. Aber alle sprachen von Instagram. Also ist ersichtlich, dass der Hype durch Instagram ausgelöst wurde – wie an so vielen anderen Orten auch. Durch Instagram ist der Jardin Majorelle zu einem dermaßen Hotspot mutiert, dass das Museum den Menschenmassen gar nicht mehr gerecht wird. Ein bisschen traurig, aber so ist es nun mal.

Halbstündlich werden also circa 250 Menschen eingelassen und haben eine halbe Stunde Zeit, vermutlich auch mehr. Aber danach haben neue Gruppen ihren Slot.
Der coole Shop ist immer noch da, exklusiv, gut kuratiert (wie man heute in coolem Neudeutsch sagt) und weitere sind dazugekommen. Alle sehr schick und auch noch ein paar hippe Cafés mit Saint-Tropez-Preisen. Und die Kutschen sahen leider ein bisschen verlaust aus. Wir sind noch etwas herumgelaufen, haben in einem marokkanischen Café mit Sonnenplätzchen einen Kaffee getrunken und dann ein Uber gerufen.

Travel-Tipps für Jardin Majorelle Marrakesch

Wenn ihr eure Marrakesch-Reise bucht, reserviert auch Sehenswürdigkeiten oder Restaurants im Voraus. Die ganzen Instagram-Hotspots sind überlaufen und oft ausgebucht. Wenn ihr Tickets für den Jardin Majorelle kaufen wollt, achtet darauf, dass ihr wirklich auf der offiziellen Ticket-Webseite gelandet seid. Es werden im Internet Tickets verkauft, die nicht offiziell sind und somit ungültig – euer Geld landet dann in den Taschen von Betrügern.

Mögliche Alternative zu Jardin Majorelle

Wenn ihr keine Tickets für den Jardin Majorelle bekommt oder euch das Ganze einfach zu voll ist, könnt ihr als Alternative den Anima Garden von André Heller besuchen. Er liegt etwa eine gute halbe Stunde außerhalb von Marrakesch, ist sehr weitläufig und soll absolut sehenswert sein. Es gibt sogar einen kostenlosen Shuttle von Marrakesch dorthin – beim nächsten Mal werde ich den Anima Garden auf jeden Fall besuchen.

Back in 2016 we visited the Jardin Majorelle in Marrakech for the very first time. You could simply turn up, buy your tickets at a little booth, wait a short while and then just walk in.
We went on New Year’s morning 2016 at 8:30 a.m. and were the first and only visitors. We were more or less completely on our own. It was quiet, it was beautiful and very peaceful. After the visit we stopped by a cool shop across the street, had a coffee and then took a horse-drawn carriage back. I remember it so clearly. That was 2016.

Fast forward to 2026. We went back, thinking – very naively – that we could just visit the Jardin Majorelle in Marrakech again. Because we couldn’t buy tickets online anymore, we showed up very early in the morning. To be honest, we didn’t think much of it 😂🙈.

Today: Jardin Majorelle 2026

Shock: crowds and several tour groups were already queued up in a long line at the entrance. Signs with time slots were being put up. These days things work a bit differently at Jardin Majorelle Marrakech. Tickets are only sold online – and you can’t just get them three days in advance anymore either. We met several people around the (no longer existing) ticket counter who were really upset because they had no chance of visiting the Jardin Majorelle at all, as they were only in the city for three days. And everyone mentioned Instagram. It is pretty obvious that the hype has been fuelled by Instagram – just like at so many other places. Thanks to Instagram, the Jardin Majorelle has turned into such a hotspot that the museum simply cannot cope with the crowds anymore. A bit sad, but that’s how it is.

Roughly every 30 minutes around 250 people are let in and have half an hour inside, maybe a bit more. Then the next group gets their slot.
The cool shop is still there, exclusive and very well curated, and more shops have joined it. All very chic – and not exactly cheap. There are cheeky cafés with Saint-Tropez prices. And the carriages, sadly, looked a little shabby. We wandered around for a bit, found a Moroccan café with a sunny spot for our coffee and then ordered an Uber.

Travel tips for Jardin Majorelle Marrakech

If you are planning a trip to Marrakech, make sure you also book sights and restaurants in advance. All the Instagram hotspots are crowded and often fully booked. If you want to buy tickets for the Jardin Majorelle, double-check that you are actually on the official ticket website. There are tickets being sold online that are not official and therefore not valid – which basically means your money ends up in the pockets of scammers.

Possible alternative to Jardin Majorelle

If you cannot get tickets for Jardin Majorelle or it all just feels a bit too crowded, you can visit André Heller’s Anima Garden as an alternative. It is about half an hour outside Marrakech, very spacious and said to be absolutely worth a visit. There is even a shuttle running from Marrakech to Anima Garden – next time I am in the city, I will definitely go there.

Die Dachterrasse des El Fenn ist mindestens genauso berühmt wie das Hotel an sich, denn dort befindet sich an einem der drei Hotel Pools die Bar und das Restaurant.

Sowohl in der Rooftop-Bar, als auch in dem Restaurant sind auch Nicht-Hotelgäste willkommen. Man gelangt über eine Treppe vom Shop aus auf die Dachterrasse. Für die Hotelgäste wird morgens das Frühstück in dem Restaurant serviert.

Wie ich schon im vorhergehenden Post geschrieben habe, muss man für das Restaurant reservieren, sonst hat man keine Chance auf einen Platz. Die Rooftop-Bar ist ebenso beliebt, besonders zum Sundown und Aperitif. Man sollte also rechtzeitig da sein, wenn man den Sonnenuntergang mit einem Cocktail in der Hand auf einem der chilligen Sofas genießen will. Der Blick auf die Moschee und über die Stadt ist ein Traum und die Einrichtung… Die Einrichtung ist einfach nur großartig.

The rooftop terrace of the El Fenn is almost as famous as the hotel itself, as it houses the bar and restaurant by one of the three hotel pools.

Both the rooftop bar and restaurant welcome non-hotel guests. You can get to the roof terrace via a staircase from the store. For hotel guests, breakfast is served in the restaurant in the morning.

As I wrote in the previous post, you have to make reservations for the restaurant or you will not have a chance to get a table. The rooftop bar is equally popular, especially for sundown and an aperitif. So you should be there early if you want to enjoy the sunset with a cocktail in hand on one of the chill sofas. The view of the mosque and over the city is a dream, and the interior… The interior is a awesome.

Das El Fenn ist vermutlich eins der berühmtesten Riads in Marakesch. Normalerweise grenzt es geradezu an ein Wunder, dort ein Zimmer zu ergattern und das, obwohl das El Fenn für ein Riad über ziemlich viele Zimmer verfügt. Momentan hat das El Fenn laut Internet 28 Zimmer und wird in Zukunft über weitere 11 Zimmer verfügen, wie der Hotel-Manager erzählt hat.

Während unseres Aufenthalts wurde ich per Direktnachricht via Instagram mehrfach gefragt, ob das Riad wirklich so toll ist. Ich will ehrlich sein: Ich habe zu dem Zeitpunkt gedacht, dass ich es für ein wenig überbewertet halte. Keine Frage, die Einrichtung ist wunderschön, alles ist mit hochwertigsten Materialien ausgestattet, und auch kein einziges Teil wirkt ein wenig abgewohnt. Die Mitarbeiter sind ausnahmslos freundlich beziehungsweise herzlich und trotz der Anzahl der Zimmer wirkt alles noch persönlich.
Am Ende der Reise bin ich aber zu einem anderen Schluss gekommen und glaube, dass es sehr ungerecht und geradezu vermessen wäre zu behaupten, dass es überbewertet ist. In einem Land wie Marokko, diesen Standard in dieser Form der Perfektion aufrechtzuerhalten, ist vermutlich eine Meisterleistung.

Das El Fenn verfügt außerdem über mehrere Pools, die man 24 Stunden am Tag nutzen kann, über einen Spa und über eine wunderschöne Dachterrasse mit einer Bar und einem Restaurant. Wer in dem Restaurant essen möchte, muss unbedingt reservieren, sonst hat man keine Chance auf einen Tisch. Für einen Aperitif im ziemlich chilligen Bar-Bereich kann man es darauf ankommen lassen. Allerdings ist die Bar zum Sundown, aufgrund des atemberaubenden Blicks immer ziemlich gut besucht gewesen.

The El Fenn is probably one of the most famous riads in Marakesh. Normally, it is almost a wonder to get a room there, even though the El Fenn has quite a few rooms for a riad. Currently, the El Fenn has 28 rooms according to the Internet and will have another 11 rooms in the future, as told by the hotel manager.

During our stay, I was asked several times by direct message via Instagram if the riad was really that great. I thought at the time that I thought it was a bit overrated. There’s no question that the decor is beautiful, everything is furnished with the highest quality materials, and not a single piece looks a little worn out either. The staff is friendly or cordial without exception and despite the number of rooms, everything still feels personal.
At the end of the trip, however, I came to a different conclusion and believe that it would be very unfair and downright presumptuous to claim that it is overrated. In a country like Morocco, to maintain this standard of perfection is probably a feat. I’d probably try to snag a room again.

The El Fenn also has several pools that you can use 24 hours a day, a spa, and a beautiful rooftop terrace with a bar and restaurant. If you want to eat at the restaurant, you really need to make a reservation, otherwise you won’t have a chance to get a table. For an aperitif in the rather chill bar area, you can try without a reservation. However, the bar has always been quite well attended at sundown, due to the breathtaking view.

Wenn mich jemand nach meinem aktuellen Lieblingsreiseland fragt, brauche ich keine Sekunde zu überlegen. Meine Antwort lautet Marokko. Auch wenn ich beim Anblick von Reisterrassen, Bananenpflanzen, Tempelanlagen und riesigen Buddhafiguren Pippi im Auge bekomme, so hat Marokko doch den Vorteil, dass es von Europa aus relativ schnell zu erreichen ist. Und ich liebe den Kontrast zwischen Eselskarren in der Medina und modernem Lifestyle in der Neustadt. Ihr mögt jetzt aufschreien und sagen, das nennt man auch Armut, aber dann werde ich mich rausreden und euch sagen, dass gerade der Tourismus wichtig für die Menschen ist.
Ich liebe Marokko und umso glücklicher bin ich, dass unser Trip nach Marokko im Oktober wirklich geklappt hat.

Besonders in Marrakesch war zu spüren, wie schwer die Corona-Zeit ohne Touristen für die Menschen war. Viele kleine Restaurants und Cafés, die wir früher gerne besucht haben, gibt es einfach nicht mehr. Jetzt, wo Touristen wieder ins Land einreisen dürfen, sofern sie sich denn Corona-technisch trauen, wird überall gebaut und es werden sicher in Kürze wieder viele neue Restaurants und Cafés eröffnen.

Und wer sich jetzt fragt, ob man wegen Corona Angst haben muss, dem sei gesagt: Nein, nicht mehr als zu Hause auch. Für die Medina gibt es eine Maske und wer das Land bereist, der ist die größte Zeit des Tages draußen und allein. Vielleicht triffst du mal ein Kamel oder eine Ziege. Auch eingekauft wird nicht in riesigen Supermärkten, sondern in kleinen Läden an der Straße.

Vermutlich dank Corona haben wir dieses Mal in einigen Hotels, die normalerweise immer ausgebucht sind, ein Zimmer bekommen. Und weil diese so wunderschön eingerichtet waren und ich in jedem der Hotels ungefähr 225000 Fotos gemacht habe, werde ich euch in den nächsten Tagen einfach damit zuspamen.

When someone asks me about my current favorite travel destination, I don’t have to think for a second. My answer is Morocco. Even though the sight of rice terraces, banana plants, temples and giant Buddha statues makes my eyes water, Morocco has the advantage of being relatively easy to reach from Europe. And I love the contrast between donkey carts in the medina and modern lifestyle in the new town. You may now cry out and say that this is also called poverty, but then I will talk my way out and tell you that especially tourism is important for people.

I love Morocco and the happier I am that our trip to Morocco in October really worked out.
Especially in Marrakech you could feel how hard the Corona time without tourists was for the people. Many small restaurants and cafes that we used to enjoy just don’t exist anymore. Now that tourists are allowed to re-enter the country, if they dare to do Corona technically, there is construction going on everywhere and many new restaurants and cafes will surely open again soon.

And who wonders now whether one must be afraid because of Corona, it is said: No, not more than at home also. There is a mask for the medina and if you travel the country, you will be outside and alone most of the day. Maybe you will meet a camel. Even shopping is not done in huge supermarkets, but in small stores along the street.

Probably thanks to Corona, this time we got rooms in some hotels that are usually always fully booked. And because these were so beautifully decorated and I took about 225000 photos in each of the hotels, I will just spam you with it in the next few days.

Update 2023: Der Conceptstore heißt nun „DIFFERENT“ und ist immer noch einen Besuch wert.

Ein absoluter Hotspot in Marrakesch ist der Concept Store des Lifestyle‑Labels „Max & Jan“. Die Kollektionen von „Max & Jan“ verbinden marokkanische Handwerkskunst mit modernem Design – und das schon seit über zehn Jahren. 2018 feierte das Design‑Duo seinen zehntjährigen Geburtstag.

In dem Concept Store in der Medina findet man Mode, Accessoires, aber auch Interieurartikel. Mir persönlich gefallen die bunten Kaftankleider des Labels am besten. Auch dieses Mal habe ich wieder mehrere Kleider gefunden, aber die zeige ich euch ein anderes Mal.

Außerdem hat „Max & Jan“ sein Geschäft um ein Restaurant erweitert. Das Restaurant befindet sich auf der Dachterrasse über dem Store und ist – wie könnte es anders sein – sehr stylisch.

Update 2023: The concept store is now called „different“ and is still well worth a visit.

An absolute hotspot in Marrakech is the concept store of the lifestyle label „Max & Jan“. The collections of „Max & Jan“ combine Moroccan craftsmanship with modern design – and that for more than ten years. In 2018, the design duo celebrated their tenth birthday.

In the concept store in the Medina you’ll find fashion, accessories as well as interior pieces. For me personally, the colourful caftan dresses of the label are the best. Once again I found several dresses this time, but I’ll show them to you another time.

In addition, „Max & Jan“ has extended its shop with a restaurant. The restaurant is located on the rooftop terrace above the store and is – how could it be any different – very stylish.
