„MADAME CHAMOTTE“

Als ich bei einem Besuch in Saint-Paul-de-Vence den Ausblick von der Stadtmauer aufs Meer genießen wollte, hat mich etwas abgelenkt. Und zwar ein leicht zitroniger Duft. Ich liebe den Duft von Zitrusfrüchten. Erst dachte ich, es wäre vielleicht das Parfüm einer anderen Touristin, aber der Duft war immer noch da, als die Frau längst weg war. Erst nach einer ganzen Weile ist mir der kleine Laden in dem wunderschönen Haus gegenüber aufgefallen. Obwohl ich schon tausend Fotos davon gemacht hatte, war mir der Laden nie aufgefallen.

Der Laden heißt „Madame Chamotte“ und dort gibt es ganz besondere handgefertigte Duftsteine, Öle und eine Art Peelingstein. Ich habe von der freundlichen Mitarbeiterin eine kleine Vorführung an meiner Hand bekommen – mit Maske, Gel und allem Drum und Dran. Sehr angenehm, ich hätte schnurren können wie eine Katze.

Entschieden habe ich mich fürs Erste für ein paar Seifen mit Eselsmilch zum Verschenken. Die riechen so zart und toll, dass ich sie am liebsten sofort selbst ausprobieren würde. Mache ich aber nicht, weil ich nämlich eine Freundin habe, die Seifen auch so liebt wie ich, und die wird sich sehr darüber freuen.

Die Dame in dem Geschäft hat mir erklärt, dass man mit der Seife auch eine Gesichtsmaske machen kann. Dafür schäumt man sie auf der Haut auf, lässt sie einwirken und spült sie nach einer Zeit wieder ab. Wer jetzt schreit „Seife im Gesicht“, dem sei gesagt: ja, das geht – aber nur mit den guten, mit den rückfettenden und nicht mit dem Flüssigzeug aus dem Supermarkt. Probiert das damit bitte nicht.

In dem Laden war ich nicht zum letzten Mal, und wenn ihr mal in Saint-Paul-de-Vence seid, schaut ruhig mal dort vorbei.

When I was visiting Saint-Paul-de-Vence and wanted to enjoy the view of the sea from the city walls, something distracted me: a light, lemony scent. I absolutely love the smell of citrus fruits. At first, I thought it might be the perfume of another tourist, but the fragrance was still there long after the woman had gone. Only after quite a while did I notice the little shop in the beautiful house across the street. Even though I had taken a thousand photos of it before, I had never noticed the store itself.

The shop is called “Madame Chamotte,” and there you’ll find very special handcrafted fragrance stones, oils, and a kind of exfoliating stone. The friendly shop assistant even gave me a little demonstration on my hand – with mask, gel, and all the trimmings. It felt so pleasant, I could have purred like a cat.

For now, I decided on a few donkey-milk soaps to give as gifts. They smell so delicate and wonderful that I would have loved to try them myself right away. But I didn’t, because I have a friend who loves soaps just as much as I do, and she will be absolutely delighted.

The lady in the shop explained to me that you can even make a face mask with the soap. You simply lather it up on your skin, let it sit for a while, and then rinse it off. And to anyone crying out “soap on the face!” – yes, it works, but only with the good ones, the nourishing ones, not the liquid stuff from the supermarket. Please don’t try it with that.

This definitely wasn’t my last visit to the shop, and if you ever find yourself in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, make sure to stop by.
