Ich liebe es, große grüne Pflanzen im Haus zu haben. Am liebsten habe ich großblättrige, üppige Palmen wie Bananenpflanzen. Dummerweise lieben solche Pflanzen aber keine Wohnungen, sondern eher Orte wie Madeira. Sie brauchen Tageslicht, Wärme und ausreichend Wasser. All das bekommen Pflanzen bei mir eher sporadisch. Und da ich auch nicht immer da bin, sind echte Pflanzen für mich schlicht keine verlässliche Option.
Zudem sind bisher alle meine Pflanzen an irgendwelchen Schädlingen eingegangen, die anscheinend von draußen durch die ständig geöffneten Fenster den Weg zu mir finden. Da denkt man am Abend: Wo ist bitte das letzte Blatt meiner Bananenpflanze – und findet eine dicke, fette, vollgefutterte Raupe auf den Resten des Blattes. Alles schon gehabt.
Ich habe die Sache mit den üppigen, großblättrigen Pflanzen nun aufgegeben und entschieden, dass Kunstpflanzen vermutlich die einzige echte Alternative sind. Sie sind kein Leckerbissen für Schädlinge und ich kann sie genau so „wachsen“ lassen, wie es mir gefällt.
Aber als ehemalige Dekorateurin weiß ich natürlich, dass es bei Kunstpflanzen gewaltige Unterschiede gibt. I love having big green plants in my home. My favorites are large, lush plants like banana palms. Unfortunately, these kinds of plants don’t really love apartments – they prefer places like Madeira. They need daylight, warmth, and plenty of water. All of that tends to be a bit irregular in my home. And since I’m not always there, real plants simply aren’t a reliable option for me.
On top of that, all of my plants so far have been taken out by some kind of pest that somehow finds its way in through constantly open windows. You come home in the evening wondering where the last leaf of your banana plant went – and find a big, well-fed caterpillar sitting on what’s left of it. Been there, done that.
So I’ve given up on lush, large-leaf plants and decided that artificial plants are probably the only real alternative. They’re not a snack for pests, and I can “shape” them exactly the way I want them to look.
As a former visual merchandiser, I obviously know that there are huge differences when it comes to artificial plants. The PTMD Collection is one of my favorite brands for home decor and offers really beautiful artificial plants that look surprisingly real – including large, lush banana plants.
